Risks of Dental Implants

Problems from dental implants are extremely rare. The main ones are listed below:

  • Infection may occur in the bone and gingival tissue of the implanted area.
  • Gum injury or nerve damage may occur in the teeth around the implanted tooth.
  • Sinus problems may occur if the dental implant applied to the upper jaw coincides with the sinus cavity.
  • The jaw may reject the implant.
  • Generally, thanks to dental implants, patients' jawbone is protected, and jaw bone resorption is stopped. Rarely, after some implants, the patient may lose the jawbone in the area where the dental implant is applied.

In the rare case that the jawbone and the implant do not fuse, the implant is removed, and the bone surface is cleaned. Implant placement is done again after about three months.

What should be considered after implant treatment?

  • After the implant, our patients should take care of their oral, gingival, and dental health and should not disrupt their care. To maintain oral hygiene, you should brush your teeth for two minutes at least twice a day, use dental floss and gargle, and visit the dentist regularly.
  • Regular dentist checks should not be interrupted to use your implants healthily throughout the implant's life.
  • Hard-shelled foods that harm the teeth should not be broken with the teeth, or the shells of these foods should not be opened with the teeth. Foods such as ice and hard candy should not be broken and chewed with the teeth.
  • Acidic and caffeinated drinks should not be consumed frequently.
