What is the process of making veneers? in Turkey, Istanbul

Preliminary Examination:

The first procedure in the laminate veneer process is the pre-examination of the patient by the dentist. With this procedure, the dentist conducts a detailed interview with the patient on issues such as the patient's expectations from the treatment, the patient's current oral and dental condition, the patient's demands, needs, and expectations, the scope of the treatment, the approximate cost calculation, and the treatment process.

Removing the question marks in the patient's mind makes it possible to start the treatment comfortably and without worry. Before starting the treatment, if there is a need for additional different dental treatment procedures such as tartar cleaning and filling, these are completed.

Planning and Design:

After reaching a consensus with the patient, intraoral photographs of the patient and, if necessary, radiological imaging are performed with special 3D cameras for planning and design. These images are transferred to special software in the computer environment, and the necessary planning and design processes are started by using CAD-CAM technology in the digital environment.

At this stage, laminated veneer alternatives in different colours and shapes are tried on the patient's photographs with the mock-up method and shown to the patient on the software. At this stage, models are made in line with the needs and demands of the patient. In this process, which will have important aesthetic results, the planning and design process is completed by interviewing the patient and obtaining their approval.

Preparation:

After the impression is taken and these impressions are sent to the laboratory for the production of laminated teeth, preparations are started on natural teeth. Before starting the procedure, local anaesthesia is applied so that the patient does not feel pain. Then, the enamel layer on the natural tooth surface is abraded into the thickness of the laminated tooth to be bonded. Although the amount of abrasion to be made on natural teeth may vary according to the patient's condition, the average is 0.3-0.5 mm. This is approximately equal to the thickness of an eggshell.

If it is desired to cover the colour of the natural tooth and to obtain a more natural tooth appearance, thicker laminated teeth should be used. In this case, the erosion will be higher. With the abrasion process, laminated teeth are better adhered to the surface of natural teeth.

Impression Taking and Laminated Tooth Production:

The patient's mouth measurements are taken before the production of laminated teeth. There are two methods used here. The first of these is the procedure, which is a classical method and is done by placing a soft impression material in the mouth. Another procedure is CAD-CAM technology, in which the inside of the mouth and teeth are scanned with tiny special cameras, and their measurements are taken and transferred to the computer environment. Thanks to this technology, the stage from taking the measurement to producing laminated teeth in the laboratory is carried out with the support of a computer and software.

The measurements taken are sent to the laboratory. Laminated teeth are produced in the desired color and model by the laboratory technician's measurements. This process may take 1-2 weeks, depending on the situation.

Attachment of Temporary Laminated Veneers: After the preparation and measurement process, temporary laminated teeth are attached to the patient. Because after the abrasion process on the surface of natural teeth, the sensitivity of hot and cold in natural teeth increases. In addition, the appearance of natural teeth can be strange.

Plastic-like or white filling material is used in the construction of temporary veneers. Temporary overlays should be durable until the actual laminated veneers bond and be easily removable when they are to be removed.

Proofing and Bonding:

Temporary veneers are removed from the teeth. Laminated teeth from the laboratory are rehearsed in the mouth before bonding. Necessary evaluations are made on the compatibility, shape, and color of laminated teeth. In case of need, the dentist tries to get the perfect result by making corrections. In the meantime, the patient's opinions are also taken.

After the proofing is completed, the residual laminated teeth are permanently bonded to the natural teeth. At this stage, the surface of the natural teeth is cleaned first. Then, by applying acidic gel on the tooth to be veneered for 15-20 seconds, it weeps to make the tooth surface more rough. Thus, the tooth surface becomes ready for laminated tooth bonding. The acidic gel is cleaned from the tooth surface, and the surface is dried. Then, the adhesive gel in the color tone suitable for the laminated tooth veneer is applied to the natural tooth surface, and the laminated tooth is adhered to the natural tooth. Then, with a blue light source, the adhesive is activated, and the bonding process is completed quickly.
